73rd Season Kids Days Highlights

African Drum and Dance Kids Day
Featuring Amadou Diawara

Bu Falle introduced participants to the drum and dance styles of the West African country Senegal. Kids jumped, kicked their feet up, and swung their arms to the rhythms of live djembe drum and folk songs.

Presto! Interactive Opera Kids Day
Featuring Kristen Jones and Jennifer Ashworth

Using the Wagner opera Lohengrin, participants sang the music, danced choreography, and recited lines to create their own performance. The kids also played team building games and learned some of the behind-the-scenes aspects of a production, such as costume building and stage direction.

World Dance Kids Day
Featuring Bomba with Shefali Shah and Hector Lugo, Salsa/Merengue with Mario Luis Alabi and Swing Dance with Hep Jen

Combining the most popular social dance styles, these workshops brought Salsa, Merengue, Bomba, and Swing dance together. Kids tried a variety of dances and learned the history behind the movements.

World Dance Kids Day
Featuring Stacey Blakeman of the San Francisco Ballet Center for Dance Education

Instructors from the Center for Dance Education taught Latin Jazz, Hip Hop, and Bhangra dance moves. Whether dancing about harvest time, mugging with the best street style, or shaking their hips to salsa music, the kids were on their feet and moving.
