KidStage
Stern Grove Festival's KidStage provides hands-on arts projects and workshops before each Sunday concert.
KidStage events in 2010 included:
June 20

Amadou Diawara and instructors
from Bu Falle performance group led participants in African drum and dance

Kainani Hartnett and members of the Academy of Hawaiian Arts
helped kids explore the art of traditional hula through song, movement, and vocabulary.

Kristen Jones and Jennifer Ashworth of Presto! Interactive Opera for Kids directed
their own version of “Lohengrin” with our young patrons, creating costumes and reciting lines.

Kids got an up-close look at the viola, flute,
bassoon, and oboe with members of San Francisco Symphony’s Youth Orchestra's Classical Instrument Petting Zoo

Kids and parents
alike joined Hep Jen in an afternoon of swing dancing, including the Jitter
Bug, Charleston,
and more.

The West
Meadow was electric with Rebecca Weisser’s Latin and hip-hop dancing and a table for kids
to make their own personalized picture frames.

August 1

Trash Mash-Up showed kids how to turn trash into treasure with recycled CD medallions
and super hero masks from discarded materials.

August 8

Charles ‘Chip’ McNeal from the San Francisco Ballet’s Center for Dance Education gave
participants insight into steps and choreography from the Ballet’s performance,
including pieces from Mark Morris.

August 15

|
Hip-hop and funk dancer Michael Mohammed led kids through basic dance moves, performing two pieces
with them by the end of the hour
|
August 22

Rattlecan
Blaster and Cameron Moberg collaborated with kids to create large-scale mural
masterpieces.
