Latest album from SoCal's Chicano Batman, Notebook Fantasy is a body of work that sheds all inhibitions and reveals the sublime expanse of the LA-bred band’s musical imagination. In the making of their 5th full-length, vocalist/lyricist Bardo, guitarist Carlos Arévalo, and bassist Eduardo Arenas doubled down on their hyper-creative tendencies, discovering new dimensions of their prismatic musicality while infusing their lyrics with a soulful yet unflinching honesty.

Notebook Fantasy, produced by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Erykah Badu) and partly recorded at the historic Sunset Sound, veers away from the subtler sensibilities of their previous works and embraces a much bolder sonic approach a move that involved executing their vision with a newly heightened mastery of their musicianship. With its dizzying constellation of song forms and sounds, including arena ready anthems, symphonic love songs, psychedelic space odysseys, and freewheeling hybrids of cumbia and funk —Notebook Fantasy endlessly channels moments of lightning-in-a-bottle inspiration into songs that push into fantastically strange terrain yet remain rooted in raw emotion. The album is the latest triumph in an extraordinary career that began at local dive bars, growing their powerful live performances by touring with artists like Alabama Shakes, Portugal The Man, and Jack White, playing Coachella numerous times, and most recently earning a headlining spot at L.A.’s iconic Forum in summer 2024.

Afro/Indigenous/Colombian/Canadian/punk/folklorist/traditionalist/transgressive/diva/angel. There are so many layers to Canadian-Colombian singer Lido Pimienta’s identity that you might get lost in them. But if you did, you’d be missing the point.
Her multi-textural, mind-bending voice and music project what Canada’s The Globe and Mail called her “bold, brash, polarizing” persona, which constantly confronts the powers that be. But it also reveals an embrace of the Afro- and Indigenous traditions that is at once defiant, delicate and sweetly nostalgic.
Pimienta’s new album Miss Colombia takes her ecstatic hybridity to a new level, building on the “nu” intersection of electronica and cumbia established by her first two albums, Color, released in 2010, and the 2016 Polaris Prize-winning La Papessa as Canadian album of the year. The latter was the first 100% independently released, non- English or French album to win the $50,000 prize. Produced with Matt Smith, a/k/a Prince Nifty, Miss Colombia overflows with the kind of understated genius that promises yet another breakthrough.

Juan “Wonway Posibul” Amador is an MC, DJ, actor, and radio host who lives and works in San Francisco, California. A child of Hip Hop culture, Juan was transfixed when a neighbor’s illegal cable connection netted him the first episode of “Yo! MTV Raps” on his family’s television screen in 1988. He began writing his own raps not long after. Later through destiny, good fortune, and the support of friends, Juan would cross paths with turntables and stages and add new loves to his musical practice.
Years of open mics, garage sessions, and table reads led to freestyle battle championships, DJ residencies in New York and Los Angeles, national theatre tours, performances around the world, and a GRAMMY nomination. Juan’s next goal is to meld his artistic disciplines and expand his expression in the digital space.
